Basketball
This area is a college hoops hotbed because DukeUniversity, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and North CarolinaStateUniversity boast some of the proudest traditions in the sport. In men's basketball, Duke has won three National Collegiate Athletic Association national championships, competed in 14 Final Fours and won 16 Atlantic Coast Conference titles. Arch-rival North Carolina has won four NCAA titles, played in 16 ACC titles. NCSU has two NCAA crowns, three Final Four appearances and 10 ACC titles to its credit. The women's programs at all three schools also have enjoyed a great deal of success.
Other schools in the area also play hoops, though not to as much national acclaim.

Baseball
The Durham Bulls are a minor league baseball team in the Triple-A International League, one step below Major League Baseball. The Bulls play at DurhamBullsAthleticPark in Durham. An affiliate of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, the team is currently in its 10th Class AAA season and has won two International League championships.
The Carolina Mudcats are a Class AA Southern League affiliate of the Florida Marlins. The Mudcats play at Five County Stadium in Zebulon. The tam has won the Southern League championship two times, one in 1995 and again in 2003.
The UNC Tar Heels play in the Atlantic Coast Conference and have appeared in two consecutive College World Series finals, in 2006 and 2007. The NCSU Wolfpack plays in the Atlantic Coast Conference and has won four ACC championships.
Soccer
The Carolina Railhawksare a professional soccer team of the United Soccer Leagues First Division. They play in Cary at SASSoccerPark.
There is a strong tradition of college soccer in the Triangle. The UNC women have won an astounding 19 national championships, while the Tar Heels and Duke men have won one NCAA crown apiece.

Holds racing events every Friday evening between mid-April and late August. The quarter-mile track includes four, 17-degree banked turns with four classes of races: the late model sportsman, the modified four cylinder, the street class and the pure stock four cylinder.
Orange County Speedway, Rougement
Located in northeastern Orange County, the speedway is a high-banked, 3/8-mile oval track with 16-degree banking in the straightaway and 19-degree banking in the turns. The speedway has won the National Speed Award for its track and is the fastest 3/8-mile track in the United States.
